sweet dreams are made of this.

Today's outfit post! Another cold and rainy day, so indoor photos it is. I promise, my photos will be much better when it's nice enough out for me to shoot outside! And maybe when I won't have to use my tripod & remote commander on self timer all the time.

Blouse: thrifted
Shirt: Old Navy
Jeans: Urban Outfitters
Boots: shop in Oxford
Cuff: Annie Creamcheese
Necklace: unknown

Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Jacket: Forever 21
Bag: Deena & Ozzy (Urban Outfitters)

When I woke up this morning my hair was doing this crazy poofy thing in the back that I could tell was not simply going to be flat-ironed out, so I worked with it and spiked it, and I actually really like how it turned out. It must've looked good, because two people complimented me on my hair!

All the chains and spikes in this outfit made me feel pretty badass, not gonna lie. It matches my new favorite song, "Army of Me" by Bjork feat. Skunk Anansie, from the Sucker Punch soundtrack.

That's all for today!

wednesday wishlist: florals, florals, more florals.

Okay, so it's becoming really obvious that I want spring. Now. And I know the entire blogosphere is freaking out (in a good way) about the season change, and okay, I'm one of those people. I'm just excited to wear dresses without a ton of layers! Anyways, today's wishlist definitely shows my spring lust.

Floral Long Sleeve Dress, $59
Wild Flowers Printed Dress, $49
Madras Plaid Bow Belt, $8 (I've been lusting after this for months, I may finally have to get it!)
"Sweet Sarah Top", $18.40
Floral Printed Satchel, $55 (How cute is this bag?! Do want!)
Bird Union Jack Bag, $70

Happy shopping!

strangers talk, be careful what you feel.

Hello lovelies! An outfit post, as promised! It's still pretty cold here, so I opted for layers, but with a spring-y color palette. I am so ready for spring. I have so many outfits planned! And then I can take better photos too. Because, call me practical, if it's cold out, I will not take outfit photos outside. Especially when I'm sick. No thank you. Also, thank you all for all the get well wishes! I will be going to the doctor later this week so hopefully I'll be all better soon.

Lace bow headband: Urban Outfitters
Circle scarf: Urban Outfitters
Button down: Old Navy
Cardigan: Old Navy
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Converse
Necklace: random shop in San Francisco
Watch: ModCloth

I think I'm a fan of this pose. I shall call it the "look I have a skirt!" pose.
Let's ignore my wrinkled shirt. My mother would not be pleased that I wore something wrinkled.

Sans cardigan.
Even though this is rather blurry, I really like it.

Recently re-dyed hair is looking the color it should!
I lovelovelove these shoes. So comfy & versatile.
My awesome mug!
I've been drinking about five cups of tea per day, and usually in this awesome mug I found in Barnes & Noble (I got my boyfriend a similar, more masculine but still skulls, one too). It's a good thing I had previously purchased a whole box of Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger tea, otherwise I'd have to try new flavors (oh noes!).

Oh, and have some links!
» From the Associated Press: US is sending robots to help Japan with the nuclear plant. Dude. Robots.
» Sally of Already Pretty talks about Vanity, which I think is an interesting issue for outfit bloggers.
» Check out Bloomberg Businessweek's Japan-centric magazine cover. Simple yet very, very effective. Great design.

That's all from me today! Have a wonderful day :)

checking in.

Hello lovelies!
Apologies for the lack of posts, but my awful cold has turned into what I'm pretty sure is laryngitis, as I have no voice. I try to talk and a pathetic little squeak comes out. Nevertheless, there shall be an outfit post tomorrow!

Oh, and Tulle & Combat Boots now has a Facebook page, so go Like it! Please :)

Hope you all are well!

five photo friday: wishing for spring.

No outfit post today (still not feeling well, but yay for 24 hour Sudafed!), but I bring you some Spring-y photos for Friday. It's technically Spring, but it sure doesn't feel like it here in D.C. It's supposed to snow on Sunday! No explanation. These are from last Friday, when it felt like spring!

the red & the black.

First, hello and thank you to my new followers! You guys are awesome.
So, here's yesterday's outfit.

Shoes: Frye
Dress: Kimchi Blue (Urban Outfitters)
Belt: Target
Cardigan: Old Navy
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Necklaces: Betsey Johnson, ModCloth
Earrings: Nomsa

Yesterday for me was a morning class, a lovely nap, an afternoon class, and then the reception for the Student Art & Design Exhibition at my school. My integrated marketing campaign that I spent over a month working on made it into the show, which I was very excited about! And I also received a copy of the new issue of the literary arts magazine, which contains one of my photos and one of my illustrations! So excited! There were mini cupcakes and good times to be had at the reception.

Oh, and I was wearing shorts under that dress—short shorts, but shorts nonetheless! Sometimes I wish this dress was a little longer....

I just got these earrings from Nomsa, I love them!
Makeup is Kat Von D liquid eyeliner & Urban Decay Skyscraper mascara.

My red Frye oxfords—I looove them, but sadly do not wear them enough.
(What is up with me doing that?!)
Left: Betsey Johnson owl necklace (via eBay); Right: ModCloth necklace
Makeup detail—I actually did the cat eye/wingtip correctly!
My late grandmother's vintage garnet ring.
I'm still sick as a dog (when will there be a cure for the common cold?!) so my apologies if there are not many thrilling posts for the next few days. Hope you all are well!

black magic.

My apologies for the lack of posts! I've been really under the weather lately, and loaded down with tons of work on top of that. Only 39 days until I finish this year of school! I can't wait for spring & summer. Everyone keeps saying summer is here, but then why on earth is it 40°?! For crying out loud! I am not pleased. The good news is that now I can bring out a few more layering pieces I forgot about from the depths of my closet.

Anyways, have an outfit from this past weekend! Today's outfit will be posted soon :)
Last Saturday my boyfriend & I drove out to this barbecue place he had been raving about—and it was AMAZING! If you're in the area, make a trip to Dixie Bones in Woodbridge, VA. It's amazing. And I'm a picky eater, so if I say it's good, then it's good.

I'm wearing:
Necklaces: Annie Creamcheese, Camden Markets
Earrings: Annie Creamcheese
Top: thrifted
Skirt: thrifted
Hoodie: gift
Tights: Gap (gift)
Boots: shoe shop in Oxford
Bag: We Are Scientists show/band merch

(Photos courtesy of my boyfriend)

Alright lovelies, that's it for today! Stay tuned for more posts in the near future! And I promise there will be more posts once I finish this semester. I'm just trying to keep my head above water with my workload right now.

Today's Wednesday Wishlist is very much vintage inspired, and features products all found on Etsy!

one fine day.

Happy first day of Spring! Now here's Friday's outfit! After our slightly epic trip to the printer, I had my fellow graphic design major, photographer, and friend Kay of Kay Photography take a few street-style-esque photos for me. They came out amazing (as pretty much all of Kay's photos do! The dude is awesome), except for me making weird faces. Blerg.

combat baby.

And now, a smorgasbord (I apparently spelled that wrong on the first try. Thank you spellcheck). Outfit post plus links I like/find inspiring. But first! I was recently accepted to Independent Fashion Bloggers and have already made a ton of friends, many of whom are now followers! So thank you all! I feel quite special :) And thank you all for all the comments! It really makes my day.

This is actually this past Wednesday's outfit, not today's. And yesterday's was boring (seriously; I went running with my Oxford roomie/BFF & to the library), so I didn't even bother taking pictures.

Scarf: no idea, had it for years
Necklace: Smithsonian Natural History Museum, of all places (it's a little bunny, if you can't see)
Bow top: thrifted
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Tights: who knows
Boots: the usual combat boots from Oxford
Details
Flower stud earrings: Nomsa
Bird ring: Annie Creamcheese in DC
Flower ring: Nomsa
Nomsa makes the prettiest jewelry. Check out her shop!

Now, a few links to share:

» Sally of Already Pretty tackles the issue of shopping pitfalls. I loved reading this because I find myself doing these things all the time. And I have a pretty bad online shopping addiction, so when something is on sale I have to really stop and ask myself, "Do I really need this?" And sometimes it works.
» On a similar note, check out my fellow ModSquader and DC girl Katie's blog, Today I Want. Apparently her online shopping addiction is as bad as mine!
» Today only, when you shop online at Forever 21, 100% of the proceeds will go to help Japan! I can't think of a better reason to give your wallet a squeeze.
» Another fellow ModSquader, Amber Rose, wrote a wonderful post about friendships gone awry. I can really identify, and I think it's worth a read.
» I lovelovelove Miss James of Bleubird Vintage's outfit today! It's so simple and chic! Now if I could make myself wear less than two to five necklaces at a time...

That's it for today, lovelies! Have a fantastic weekend :)

five photo friday: field trip!

So, what first? Outfit post or five photo friday? Well, it'll be five photo friday first.
Also, hope everyone had a fun and safe St. Patrick's Day! I went to the library. Joy.
So today was not any ordinary Friday. I got up at 7am (quite a feat for me) and set off with my Graphic Design Studio class to go to a real print shop right outside D.C. So all of today's photos are from our little field trip, which was awesome & quite informative. I will never forget the smell of ink.

On the way there. It was veeeeeery early.
And in a very rare moment, me smiling! Authentically!
Alert the media!
We were in the very schnazzy waiting room & my
friend Kay (who is a crazy awesome photographer) &
I traded cameras. His weighs about a gazillion pounds.
View of the press room from the overlook at Peake Delancey Printers.
Huge vat of red ink!
Dude. It's a shrink-wrapping machine. So cool.
Well, I hope you all have enjoyed my very nerdy Five Photo Friday. No flickr links yet because I haven't even uploaded them yet—you guys are the first to see these!

Expect an outfit post in the very near future :)

wednesday wishlist!

If I wasn't a broke college student, here's what I'd be buying:

I really love all the geode necklaces—I want to collect and wear them all! I'd probably look like the mineral collection at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, but what can I say, I like shiny things. Also, I don't own a single pair of wedges, and I'm not really sure which style would be best for me. These two pairs from Blowfish are just awesome though. And I always needwant more earrings & rings! And shorts for the upcoming season change!

While you're online shopping, don't forget to donate to a relief fund or two to help Japan! I donated to help save the animals in Japan, which you can do via these sites:
» Japanese Earthquake Animal Rescue & Support
» American Humane Association
» Humane Society

What are your favorite finds for the week?

Happy shopping & donating!
