the girl with the dragon tattoo.

As you can tell by the fact that I'm finally updating, we survived Hurricane Sandy, thankfully unscathed. We didn't even lose power, which I was very thankful for. Now, first things first:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

For our friends' Halloween party on Saturday I went as Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo—one of my favorite movies (both versions) and one of my favorite books.

I'm wearing:
Jacket: Forever 21
Jeans: Old Navy
T-shirt: can't remember
Boots: shop in Oxford
Necklaces: had both for years
Earrings: Annie Creamcheese
Eyeshadow: Urban Decay
Eyeliner: Urban Decay "Perversion"
Hair glue: Got2b Ultra Glue

Yes, the mohawk is real! It required my boyfriend's awesome mohawk skills (when I first met him way back when he had a mohawk) and a loooooooot of hair glue—I think we used half the bottle! But I was sad when I had to wash it out. Having a mohawk makes you feel like such a badass. And you know, the studs and chains helped.

What do you think, did I make a good Lisbeth?
Here's Rooney Mara as Lisbeth, and Noomi Rapace, the original Lisbeth in the Swedish films.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!

rose hues.

Hello all! Hope everyone is having a good week so far. This week has gone really quickly which has been both good and bad—good because it's almost all the weekend, bad because I didn't get to do as much as I wanted. Anyways, here's an outfit that I wore to work on Monday.

I'm wearing:
Blazer: Gap
Skirt: American Apparel
Tights: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: thrifted
Necklace: made by me
Belt: Threadcase

I last wore this blouse back in February and I wasn't quite sure how to style it differently but I like this a lot better. I love the details on this blouse, especially the button holes—so gorgeous.

Also, so glad I found this blazer over the summer on sale (for $20, it was originally $90!) because I wear it almost all the time to work.

Anyways, that's it for tonight. Have a great end of the week!

dot + line.

I can't believe it's Sunday night already—this weekend was nice & low key, but went way too fast. Friday night (after returning home from work and taking an impromptu nap with the cat) I ventured out into DC to go Black Cat's new Catalyst dance party to see the lovely Katie and hear some good music. It was a lot of fun, but of course the DC metro made my trip home two and a half hours long (over an hour longer than it should've taken), so I didn't get home until 3am. After sleeping in Saturday morning and then making pumpkin cookies and pumpkin pie (well, my boyfriend made the pie), Hannah & her boyfriend came over and we had a great night of pumpkin things, chinese food, and nerdy board games (Star Wars Monopoly & Star Trek Catan). Overall, a great weekend.

Anyways. I meant to post this outfit a while ago but it got caught up in my backlog. I think it's a good example of my continuous experimentation with what I can get away with that's work appropriate but a little different.

I'm wearing:
Blazer: Gap
Blouse: TJ Maxx
Skirt: American Apparel
Boots: Target
Earrings: Nomsa

Any outfit + black blazer = instant professional look. Right? Right.
I also decided to do something slightly fancy with my hair and did a little side braid, which I ended up liking. My hair is actually long enough that I can do stuff with it now, and I want to try experimenting with some new hairstyles.

Have a great Sunday night!

red & chevron.

Hellooo! Sorry for the lack of posts lately—it's been a more eventful week than usual. But I have great news to share, which shall come after the outfit!

I wore this to work last Thursday and then had my aunt & uncle over for dinner at the apartment since they hadn't seen it yet.

I'm wearing:
Blazer: Gap
Top: ModCloth
Skirt: Express
Tights: Target
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Bracelet: Diament Jewelry
Pin: vintage

How cool are these tights from Target? I'm totally on the chevron bandwagon.

Anyways, onto the good news! We adopted a cat!
Meet Mungo!
He's an 8 year old brown and white tabby, and he is the sweetest thing. My boyfriend & I adopted him from the local shelter on Saturday—he looked so pitiful and had the cutest little old man meow, we just had to get him. Expect lots of pictures of him. And if you follow me on Instagram (@tulleandboots), you've already seen some pretty adorable shots of him.

Have a great night!

thrifted brights.

Helloooo lovelies! For some reason, my brain is kind of fried from work and then an hour long workout, so no clever quips tonight. This is an outfit I wore last Friday, and I'm actually really proud of it. I wish I had gotten better pictures, but when I got home from work I had to rush around before driving to my parents' for a quick weekend trip.

I'm wearing:
Jacket: thrifted, $15
Sweater: thrifted, $2.50
Skirt: Loft, thrifted, $8
Shoes: Born Concept, gift
Necklace: vintage + DIY
Belt: Target
Bag: Coach, was my mom's

I found this sweater at the Closet in Herndon, which is not far from my work but only open during random hours (and it's cash only, so I couldn't get the Marc Jacobs dress I found for $25). I finally took a trip over there during my lunch break and I found this—it fits perfectly, super comfortable, and it was only $2.50! Almost everything in this outfit is thrifted, which I felt pretty good about because that's really the first time I've had an outfit like that.

Also, I found this jacket at a thrift store in the Outer Banks in May and have been waiting for the weather to get cold enough to wear it! So glad I bought it.

What's your favorite thrifted piece?

Have a great night!

gala.

Another weekend has flown by, and unfortunately I am not one of the lucky ones that has tomorrow off (I have no idea why, though). Last night was my employer's 20th anniversary gala, so my boyfriend & I got all dressed up! It was a lot of fun, with nice speeches and good food. It was kind of weird to see so many of my coworkers out of the office and all dressed up!

And I would not have had a dress were it not for my mother (who I get my shopping addiction from), who picked out four dresses and had them all shipped to my apartment, and then we decided on one. This one was the most comfortable, professional-looking one, and the one that was most my style. Not crazy fancy, but I know I'll wear it again. And I got a lot of compliments on it, which is always nice.

Photos by my boyfriend.
I'm wearing:
Clutch: borrowed from my mom
Necklace & bracelets: purchased years ago
Lipstick: Clinique chubby stick in berry (I think)
Eyeshadow & liners: Urban Decay

I really like how it all came together. And I finally got my hair cut! It was driving me nuts and getting to be a bit of a hot mess, so I was glad to have it cut.

Time to go rest up to prepare for the work week!

pink & polka dot.

I can't believe it's Wednesday already—I'm so glad this week is almost over, even though I have a hectic weekend ahead, with some fun thrown in. Anyways, this past weekend my boyfriend and I went to the Occoquan Fall Craft Fair, which was a lot of fun. We walked around and had a nice little lunch and got cupcakes—a treat for me because I've been eating really healthy lately. And a new setting for outfit photos! We took these as we were walking over the bridge to Old Town Occoquan.

I'm wearing:
Sweater: Target
Tank: Old Navy
Jeans: Target
Boots: Target
Bag: the Kills concert
Necklace: Target
Rings: Quarter Life, gift, school ring
Sunglasses: H&M

Yep, basically everything in this outfit is from Target. I bought these jeans on an impulse while browsing through Target, because they are SO CUTE. And they're so comfortable! And the boots, sweater, and necklace I ordered online because a) online discount, and b) left myself time to make sure I was sure about the purchase. This sweater is also super comfy, and with fall arriving I've been feeling the need to buy sweaters. And the obligatory peter pan collar necklace—I kept seeing it in the store and finally caved.

This past Saturday was the perfect weather—sunny, breezy, cool enough for a sweater but not too chilly. I'm making a quick trip home this weekend to switch out my summer clothes for my fall clothes and I'm excited because I don't really remember what I've got packed away, so it'll be like shopping! Only without spending money (bonus).

What are you most excited for for fall clothes?
