spooky & sweet.

Happy Halloween, everyone! I'm not dressing up this year, but I did want to wear a festive outfit (to cap off a week of seasonally appropriate outfits) and decided to make a dress just for Halloween!

Photos by my husband.

What I'm wearing:
Dress: made by me; Stevie pattern by Tilly & the Buttons, fabric from Domesticity
Coat: ASOS via Poshmark
Leggings: old
Boots: DSW
Earrings: Baublebar, gift
Necklace: super old
Eyeshadows & lipstick: Winky Lux
Eyeliner: Milani 'the Tank'

A pink and black outfit is a Halloween first for me, and it's definitely different—but I had to wear this coat with this dress to bring out the pink details in the fabric design. And I was actually excited it was chilly enough to wear this coat!

So, the dress. I love this fabric—it's from the Art Gallery Fabrics Spooky & Sweet collection, and the details on it are so good and well done. I debated which pattern to use—the Stevie, the Fen, or a sleeveless Lotta—but despite the Instagram poll, went with the Stevie. I sewed this in parts over the course of a week, and I made myself slow down a bit. Maybe it was because I've already made a good amount of Stevies, but I didn't get impatient and I'm very happy to say I did not mess up a single thing while making this garment. That is super rare for me, honestly! I took the time to hand sew the button and the button loop and I think it definitely made a difference—at least in my mind.

We're having a quiet Halloween at home (because COVID) but I'm looking forward to making some apple crisp and getting some stuff done that I've been putting up.

Are you dressing up for Halloween?

Stay safe everyone! 🎃

they call me spooky.

For my fellow X-Files fans, you'll get why this post title goes with this outfit!

Photos by my husband.

What I'm wearing:
Sweater: secondhand
Blouse: Target
Skirt: ThredUP
Tights: Target
Boots: Steve Madden, gift

This was one of those rare outfits where it actually turned out exactly how I planned, and look how I pictured it. A couple months ago, one of my friends was looking to rehome this sweatshirt and I jumped on it because it's such a perfect nerdy understatement. And how cute is this little stack of cat pumpkins pin?! And yes, I will be wearing these boots with all of my Halloween-related outfits.

the craft realness.

When my husband saw this outfit he described it as "The Craft realness" and I was excited because that's basically what I was going for (or casual witchy).

What I'm wearing:
Dress (worn as skirt): Pact, old
Top: Urban Outfitters via ThredUP
Tights: Target
Collar Pins: Dapper & Swag
Boots: Steve Madden (gift, old)
Belt: eBay, old

These sleeves are dramaaaaatic. I had to take a few photos to show the volume of the sleeves—it takes 'batwing' to a whole new level. I plan on layering this top over a few things, but it's a little tricky because it's a bit long and oversized. But it was a good ThredUP score and certainly seasonally appropriate.

Stay tuned for a few more Halloween outfits!

holographic.

This is my first Tilly & the Buttons Lotta dress, and it's one of my favorite makes of late!

Photos by my husband.

What I'm wearing:
Dress: made by me, Lotta pattern, fabric from JoAnn's
Boots: DSW
Earrings: Target, old
Lipstick: Winky Lux

This dress was super easy to make and really comfortable and easy to wear. I love how simple Tilly & the Button's instructions are for every pattern. I'm definitely going to be making a lot of Lottas, since you can use knit and woven fabrics! This one is a cotton jersey that I impulse bought at JoAnn's once—holographic moons and stars, and Halloween right around the corner? Sign me up. But I'll definitely be wearing this year round.

I also love how these photos turned out—I'm getting a little better at smiling and it looking like an actual smile instead of a grimace!

on the grid.

This dress was actually the first I ever made, but it was way too warm to wear it until now!

Photos by my husband.

What I'm wearing:
Dress: Tilly & the Buttons Stevie pattern, brushed cotton from JoAnn Fabrics
Jacket: Old Navy
Boots: DSW

I was so excited to finally wear this dress, and I absolutely love the feel of this brushed cotton. I know I'll be getting a lot of wear out of this as it gets colder! Also, the Stevie is one of my favorite patterns—highly recommend for beginners!

don't blink.

 A simple jeans & t-shirt outfit, but featuring a t-shirt I made!

Photos by my husband.

What I'm wearing:
T-Shirt: Made by me, modified Seamwork Rory
Jeans: Old Navy
Boots: DSW
Necklace: Loft, old

I snagged a little more than a yard of this fabric from the Finch Studio sidewalk sale, and honestly was a little afraid to use it because I love it so much. I used the Rory pattern for the most part, but didn't do the bottom band or tie, and didn't turn the neckband under. It was a really fast project and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out! Obviously, I have a thing for eye prints lately 👀

fall florals.

This outfit is what I would call quintessential fall casual.

Photos by my husband.

What I'm wearing:
Dress: Old Navy, thrifted
Jacket: Old Navy, old
Boots: White Mountain via ThredUp
Necklaces: Madewell
Rings: Baublebar, gifts, old

I thrifted this dress in my first thrift trip since the start of the pandemic, about a month or so ago, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I like the fit and style. I'm all about loose dresses lately, bonus points for a cute print with an autumnal color palette.

eye on you.

I can't believe we're halfway through October already! It's been a pretty busy couple of weeks, hence the lack of posts.

What I'm wearing:
T-Shirt: Old Navy
Sweater: J.Crew Factory
Boots: BP, old
Necklace: vintage

This outfit was one of those ones that came together so easily and was so comfortable—perfect for working from home. I discovered Harkel via an Instagram ad, and I really like what I've seen so far—their aesthetic reminds me of old school ModCloth. This skirt is super soft, stretchy, and has embroidered eyes on it!

Also, how cool are these earrings? They're so fun and sparkly, and handmade!

Have a great weekend!
