scallops and studs.

Hello lovelies! I hope everyone had a great weekend. This past Friday was mine & my boyfriend's 2 year anniversary (!!!) so I got a bit dressed up and we went to our favorite local Irish pub to celebrate!

I'm wearing:
Studded jacket: Forever 21
Dress: Oasis
Leggings: Old Navy
Booties: DSW
Necklace: Shabby Apple (via giveaway)
Bag: Urban Outfitters
Belt: Threadcase

I hadn't worn this dress in a while and it ended up being perfect for going straight from my internship to a nice dinner out. I wore it with the same jacket last time I wore it, but I felt like it was a bit different this time (and I like it much better with a belt). I also wore these shoes all day, including my mile walk through the city to and from my internship, so I was pretty proud of myself for that!

Also, what is with my hair being so awesome lately? I'm not going to question it.

Have a great week!

chambaray and black.

Hello lovelies! Sorry I've been MIA this week (which seems to be the thing in the blogosphere this week), life has been crazy. I only have a week of classes left, so this week & the next is the final academic push. And it's not easy, because my senioritis has been setting in and I much rather apply to jobs than do my homework. Also, job hunting is a grueling process, but hopefully something will work out soon. Because, *drumroll*, we found an apartment! It's gorgeous, plenty of space, in a great area (not too far outside the district), and a great deal. We move in early June and I can't wait! But now, I really need to get this job thing sorted out. So I can, yanno, pay the rent. (P.S. Know of anyone who needs a graphic designer in the DC area?!)

Anyways... Outfit time!
I'm wearing:
Shirt: Old Navy
Dress: Urban Outfitters
Boots: Palladium (gift from years ago)
Belt: Oasis
Necklace: Annie Creamcheese, years ago
Earrings: Nomsa on Etsy

I'm really pleased with how this outfit turned out. I found this top on clearance the other day at the mall when I was looking for some basics and knew it would be useful. I've really been liking black & denim/chambaray combinations lately. And of course, my obligatory quirky accessories! Oh, and my bangs are doing that weird flippy thing because it rained today and my hair and rain do not really mix well. I want it to go back to being spring! Although April showers bring May flowers, right?

In other personal life ramblings, I turn 22 in 2 weeks and graduate from college in 3 weeks. Um, pinch me?

Have a great end of the week!

blue and black.

The shopping bug is hitting me hard today. I've been pretty good, shopping wise, lately, and I feel like that good streak is about to break. I've also realized I need to replenish a few basic items, because I seem to have left a few necessities at home. Le sigh. Can I become magically rich please? (I know, I know, join the club.)

Anyways, here's what I wore to present my senior honors thesis project at the Student Research Conference yesterday.
I'm wearing:
Blazer: Urban Outfitters
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Dress: Ann Taylor, gift
Tights: Target
Shoes: DSW
Bag: Parcel by Loop via eBay
Necklace: made by me

Well, when I say I made that necklace, I really mean I just put together two random elements I had: one earring (the pendant) that didn't have a mate and a chain that didn't have a pendant. Instant pendant necklace!

I scored this bag on eBay yeaaaars ago and just recently dragged it out of my closet when I remembered how awesome it is! Neon splashes on a grayscale screenprint? I approve.

Oh, and for those of you in the DC/Northern Virginia area this weekend (who are also trying to avoid the shopping bug), DewdropDC is hosting another wonderful swap! I unfortunately won't be able to make it since I'll be on an apartment hunting extravaganza, but I encourage everyone in the area to go! It's a great event, I'm so glad they decided to do another one!

Have a great end of the week!

london calling.

One day I will stop wearing my floral oxfords constantly. Today, my friends, is not that day.

(These pictures are actually from two weekends ago, I just never got around to posting them. Photos taken by my boyfriend.)
I'm wearing:
Sweater: American Apparel
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Shirt: David & Goliath
Skirt: American Apparel
Belt: Target
Tights: H&M
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

T-shirts + skirts + belts = best casual spring outfits. And again, my love of novelty t-shirts making an appearance (my shirt says "london calling!" in case you can't read it). Also, I did not wear so much American Apparel & Urban Outfitters on purpose. It just happens that way (my friends would attribute it to my "hipster" nature, haha).

Also, I just realized that all the blue and grey of this outfit fits perfectly with London, hah! (Fun fact: the entire six weeks that I was in Oxford two summers ago I did not buy an umbrella until the last week. What can I say, I'm stubborn.) I miss Oxford. And London. And England. Can I please go back now?

Have a great day!

the perfect color combination.

It seems that Monday totally flew by and Tuesday kicked me in the face. But, I survived! Can I just say, being an adult is weird. Sometimes I wish I could go back to being a kid for a day or two. But I'm excited for some of these new adulthood things that are coming up.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! I got some DC exploring time in with my friend Katie since we had to go to the National Archives and the Hirshhorn Museum to see a few exhibits for a class. If you're in the area, I highly recommend checking out the Public Vaults exhibit at the Archives and Doug Aiken's "Song 1" outside the Hirshhorn Museum, showing every night starting at sunset. We also tried out a new Indian inspired food place and then indulged with (very expensive, but worth it) gelato.

Anyways, here's some photos I've been hoarding of one of my new favorite outfits!

I'm wearing:
Jacket/Blazer: Primark
Blouse: Jason Wu for Target
Jeans: Forever 21
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: Urban Outfitters
Sunglasses: H&M

So over my Easter break I went into Target to have a look around and when browsing the clearance section I came upon this top, the only one of its kind. AND IT WAS ONLY $8. I even tried it on to make sure it fit, and behold, victory! So I did end up scoring a piece of the Jason Wu for Target collection, a month or so after the fact.

These two colors, light turquoise and bright red, are my favorite color pairing. It's the perfect amount of contrast. My first personal website I designed for myself used this palette, along with a light grey. I will never not love it. And now I have an outfit that fits the palette! And of course the shoes tie the opposites together, because they have red and blue (these shoes were an awesome purchase, y/y?).

What's your favorite color combination?

novelty shirts and pleated skirts.

Hello lovelies! I feel like I haven't posted in days even though I only skipped one. Thankfully the week is already halfway over! Here's a comfy casual outfit I wore last week.

I'm wearing:
Cardigan: American Apparel
Shirt: Threadless
Skirt: Old Navy
Tights: stolen from my mom
Boots: Blowfish
Necklace: Pretty People

Even as I get older, I will always have an appreciation for novelty or silly shirts. And I will always love anything with a cat on it. So naturally, when Threadless was having their $10 sale and this was on sale, I had to get it (I also really want this shirt). Not gonna lie, at first I felt kind of silly walking around with a huge cat face on a shirt but I got over it because it's so cute. And just adds to the total hipsterness of this outfit (which I'm okay with). Also my hair didn't magically grow long again, this is from before I got my haircut, hah.

Anyways, enough rambling. Anything with a cat on it is awesome, right?

Have a great rest of the week!

style inspiration: 90s grunge

Lately I've been rewatching My So-Called Life and between that and how much 90s grunge music I listen to on a regular basis, I've decided to do a style inspiration post on 90s grunge. It has definitely influenced my style, in some pretty obvious ways (exhibits A, B, and C).

In honor of one of the best shows of the 90s, let's start with My So-Called Life. (If you've never seen this show, go watch it now! It's so good.)
Promo shot of Angela Chase & Jordan Catalano.
And of course, some of my favorite 90s musicians.
Garbage, circa 1997.
(From my archive of saved photos.)
Kurt Cobain of Nirvana during their MTV Unplugged session.
(Image found through Google Images.)
And some modern day takes on grunge (also known as "neo-grunge," apparently).
(found on Pinterest)
Keira Knightley.

What do you think of 90s style? Too much plaid? Or just right?
