steampunk.

Happy Halloween, my lovely followers! I hope you're all having a fun & safe halloween!
These photos were of my outfit/costume for my college's big Halloween event, Halloweenfest, where we decorate the dorms and all the clubs come up with activities for underprivileged neighborhood children, so they can come go through the "haunted houses" and get candy and do fun things. It's a lot of fun, even for us college students, haha. So this year I decided to be steampunk—and I didn't even have to buy any extra costume additions!

Photos by my friend Katie.
I'm wearing:
Coat: vintage, thrifted ($5!)
Dress (worn as skirt): Forever 21 (Twist collection)
Corset/vest: thrifted ($2.50)
Shirt: Old Navy
Tights: Urban Outfitters
Boots: vintage
Belt: ebay
Bag: gift (originally from London)
Necklaces (top to bottom): Annie Creamcheese, antique, Camden market
Rings (l-r): school ring, gift, Diament Jewelry, gift, Mayhem festival
Earrings: Nomsa
Makeup: Almay liner & Urban Decay shadows

Not gonna lie, I'd probably wear a toned down version of this outfit on a regular day. I'm really proud of how everything came together so well. I decided to enter these photos/this outfit into both the Chictopia & Lookbook DIY Halloween costume competitions, so please vote for me!

Also, can we talk about how I scored this awesome coat for $5?! I'm still amazed. I looove the buttons, they're so retro!

What did you dress up as for Halloween?

shades of red.

Hello lovelies! Sorry for the quiet on here lately, it's been yet another hectic week.
This past weekend I went to the Georgetown LOFT Grand Opening sponsored by Lucky Magazine & A Lacey Perspective (and took my friend Katie with me!). It was a really nice event, complete with mini cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake! I didn't buy anything (I was being good), but I did love looking at all the clothes. And of course I styled a look & was photographed!
Here is my look:

Very different from my usual, right?
And some photos I took of the event:

1. Lovely store setup. 2. They had a DJ in the store window! A really good DJ, too.
3. Miscellaneous pretty accessories. 4. Mini cupcakes! I love me some cupcakes.
5. Vivi from Heart Print & Style being all blogger-y. 6. Lacey from A Lacey Perspective.
7. Some lovely merchandise. 8. The photo area.

And now, outfit photos! Taken by my friend Katie, as we were walking across the Key Bridge.
Obligatory silly picture.
I'm wearing:
Jacket: BB Dakota via Fancy French Cologne
Hat: vintage via Pretty People Vintage
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Shirt: don't remember, haha.
Jeans: Wet Seal
Oxfords: Frye (gift)
Bag: the Kills concert
Necklace: vendor at the Renaissance Festival

I absolutely love how these photos turned out—they're some of my favorites that Katie has ever taken of me. And we had a great day out; after the event we made an obligatory (okay, obligatory for me, Katie didn't really have a choice hahaha) stop at Urban Outfitters, where I scored a pair of Levi's shorts for $10 and a beautiful dress for $30 (half off!). Oh, and the most adorable ring holder ever. All in all, a very productive day! Especially since we both had to work an event that morning.

Also, can we talk about how obsessed I am with the color red? I think it's my fall color. I can't get enough of it lately. I'm so glad I got this jacket, it's perfect (and it was only $19)!

Tomorrow's Friday!!! Yaaay! I'm so excited because my boyfriend and I are going to my house for the weekend, and there are many mini adventures to be had! And I'm getting a new phone (finally! not telling what kind yet though!). And I get to see my cats, which will probably be one of the highlights of my weekend. (Me, crazy cat lady? Naaah.)

I need to stop using parentheses. Oh, and be sure to check out my new favorite etsy shop, An Upcycled Life! I'm biased because it's my good friend Allison's shop, but check it out! She makes awesome upcycled stationary!
Have a great day!

pleats & loafers.

Is it Monday again? Already? Things are going way too fast lately, I can't believe it's already almost November. Weird. Anyways, have some outfit photos!

Photos by my friend Katie.
I'm wearing:
T-shirt: gift
Sweater: American Apparel
Skirt: Old Navy
Socks: Gap
Shoes: thrifted
Necklace: Annie Creamcheese

I don't know why, but when we were taking these photos I was actually having trouble posing. Not that I'm all that great at posing in the first place, but I was consciously having issues with it. I think also the angles in these make my face look weird. But, that could just be me. I looooove this skirt: simple, black, and pleated! But not the kind of pleats that make your hips look huge. And I got it on sale! Awesomeness. I'm excited to experiment with this skirt, and the skirt/knee highs combination. It's so funny, I hated wearing skirts & knee highs in high school (I had to wear a uniform) and now I love it.

Also, I was so shocked when a couple of my friends complimented me on my old lady loafers I got at the thrift store. They are definitely growing on me. What do you think of the loafers trend?

Have a great week!

renaissance.

Happy Saturday! Last weekend my boyfriend and I went to the Renaissance Festival in Annapolis, Maryland. It's one of our favorite things, mostly because it's so much fun and just ridiculous and it's the best place to people watch. A lot of people dress up, not just in Renaissance period costume—one year I saw a green man, this year there was a group of steampunk people, and the list goes on and on. Here are some pictures of my outfit that my boyfriend took of me, and then some pictures I took of the festival! (Also, this is my substitute for missing Five Photo Friday yesterday.)

I'm wearing:
Dress: Kimchi Blue / Urban Outfitters
Pants: Insight / Urban Outfitters
Boots: shop in Oxford
Necklace: antique
Flower crown: made by me
Backpack (not pictured): Cath Kidston
